For the ladies :) TMI warning
So I was so worried about having to be naked for the surgery and then I got something even better to worry about, now I have my period. So when I get to the hospital (my surgery is Tuesday) who do I tell? What will they do? So icky!
Age: 34 / Height 5' 8" / Starting weight July 2015: 446.0 lbs / Surgery Date & Weight: 1/19/16 - 320.4 / Lost pre-op: 125.6lbs / Goal Weight: 180 lbs
Just let them know, you'll have to wear a pad and they'll move the panties out of the way to do your surgery. Not really a big deal, they'll handle it. I totally understand the ickyness factor, but hey, they're surgeons, they see icky every day.

Just remember: They have seen it all. Tell the nurse when they take you back to preop. But here's hoping that by Tuesday it slows down. The same thing happened to me when I had to go for my heart cath and they put a blue pad under me and had me just sort of hold the pad between my legs (no undies were allowed for the procedure). I would recommend bring an extra supply of your own sanitary items...

As a Surgery nurse I can say, "This is really no big deal". :) I know it feels really uncomfortable and overwhelming to you but to us, believe me we have seen and dealt with much more "icky" things. Just mention it to your pre-op nurse and they will instruct you. As for us seeing you naked....we have seen it ALL literally thousands of times...we do not judge or even remember your body...unless you have a 3rd boob that is!! :) Or the guy who had a very interesting tattoo on his penis...I will always remember him! ;)

I have only been in this position for 6months but have been a nurse for 2years. I am a nurse/surgical tech. So I actually scrub in an assist the surgeon....I love it because I get to be right in the action. What kind of training or school do you have? You can become a surgical tech in about 18 months, if that is what you want to focus on.

I'm an RN on a med/surg tele floor, just finished my BSN in December. Started as an LPN, so I've been a nurse for 5 years. I really like the action too. I observed in an OR one day and it was fascinating. Especially how meticulous and organized everything is. The techs know their stuff. I really like procedures and wounds. I want to find my place in nursing!
I had my period for my surgery too. They gave me a pad and special mesh panties. The weird thing is that they didn't put it back on after surgery (and I didn't check). The first time they got me up to go to the bathroom, I was dripping blood all over the bathroom floor. Freaked the nurse right out as she thought I was bleeding somewhere from the surgery. Lol! She hiked my gown up so fast to check things out and then asked, are you on your menses? I said yes and they got me a pad!
