Surgery is done! Yay!

Hi Everyone! Finally my surgery has come and gone. I'm not in much pain but have been quite nauseous and haven't even been able to keep down ice chips. It really sucks because my mouth is so dry. They just gave me another dose of Zofran and my stomach has settled so maybe I'll try another ice chip in a bit. Walking is miraculous, lol. I can't believe how good it makes me feel once I'm moving around and releasing all that trapped gas. The breathing thingy they make me use seems to help with the nausea as well so I've been doing that after every walk. I was very nervous about coming to Tijuana for my surgery but Dr. Fernando Garcia was great (even though I only spoke to him briefly before surgery because he has general doctor's who go through every last detail with the patient and check-up frequently). The nurses are super nice and good at their jobs but they don't speak English that well so you can't have much of a conversation with them. They do understand English though when you need to ask for something. There's always an English speaking doctor on, even overnight so it's not a big deal. Tomorrow the surgeon will check-up on me and I believe I'll also meet with the nutritionist. For now, I'm going to try another ice chip and then it's bedtime! Thanks everyone for all the support you've given me over the past six months; I think it made me less nervous about my surgery.

Best,

Samantha

Its wonderful that you are well enough to be posting so soon after surgery!  Congratulations.  I'm delighted that things went well, and that you are on the mends.

best wishes,

Carol

Fantastic that your surgery is over and went well. Congratulations. Sorry your nurses do not speak English well. I had my surgery in Mexico and all the staff spoke English. The cleaning lady was even taking classes. I think they required it of their staff. Before you know it you will be on your way home though. Hope the ice chips are going down well now.

Welcome to the losers club! I am glad things went so well. Your breathing device will help with nausea, I used it all the time. Keep breathing in deep in and out. I had the same nausea issues but was fine once I sat straight up and had a pillow under my chest.

I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well!  Hearing about your experience is making me a little less nervous about going to Mexico myself! I hope your nausea subsides and that your recovery is quick! :)

So glad your surgery went well and that you are doing great. I'm 6 days post op and I can promise you it really does get better every day. Walk, and walk as much as you can. I hope your nausea settles soon. Wishing you an uneventful recovery!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes! I feel much better today. The nausea is pretty much gone and the pain is very little. I'm so relieved! I thought for sure I was going to be nauseous for my whole recovery. Luckily, the doctors have stayed on top of it and changed one of the painkillers which they thought was probably contributing to my nausea. Now I have to concentrate on sipping more liquid since tomorrow I'll be off my IV and I don't want to get dehydrated. Baby steps I suppose. Take care everyone!
