4 years post VSG and weight is creeping back

I had my surgery 4 years ago and over the past year I have noticed that I am able to eat considerably larger portions and...well...I do. I got down 20lbs below my surgeon's goal weight. I am currently at my surgeon's original goal weight for me which is 165lbs. I am 5'10'. I felt so much better around 150...more energy. I am slipping and looking for support! I just don't want to go down that road again!

It is good to get 20 pounds under your surgeons goal because the year three bounce-back is generally about 20 pounds.

When I want to lose weight now, I have to diet and exercise, but mainly diet.  I drop to 900 calories a day and lose a pound a week.  There is no shortcut.  If you find a miracle and lose 20 pounds in a week or two, then that weight will quickly find its way back.

Weigh and measure and track your food.  Weigh daily.  Set a goal and work to get there.  Cut the carbs, eat mostly dense protein, drink lots of water and move every day.  You did it before and can do it again.

Huh, guess I didn't realize that there was a year three bounce back that is relatively typical of 20. That describes me pretty closely actually, other than I have since taken it off. To the OP- get it now instead of letting it pile up! We have all been down that path before. You can do it!

I see you started with a size 12 shoe. What size do you wear now?

I didn't know that either. I'm getting ready to start my 3rd year in May. I better pay close attention.

Thank you. It's never rocket science is it? Just calories in and calories out. I think my greatest fear is that I have undone the size of my stomach-I probably need to make an appt. with my surgeon to ease my worry.

Your stomach is supposed to grow to its full adult size.  Usually to about eight ounces or so.  The original was about 30 ounces.  So compare a two-liter soda bottle to a one cup measuring cup.

We would starve to death if we did not recover from the surgery and have the ability to eat a more normal amount of food.

It is just at the point now where you can eat more than you need and weight control is back to the calories in.

That completely makes sense and I hadn't had it explained that way to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!
