I think it would depend on how swollen your feet are or how much fat you carry in your feet (if that's even a thing.) Personally, I've never had a problem with swollen feet. I've lost nearly 60 pounds so far and no change in my shoe size or fit.

I wore a 10W before surgery, and sometimes even those wouldn't be comfortable depending on the style. I can now wear a 9-9.5 (not wide width!) and my pre-surgery shoes are all too stretched out to stay on my feet.

I hope my feet get a tad smaller. I am currently a wide 8.5-9 (depending on the style/manufacturer). I don't care if the sizes changes so much as I would like to be normal instead of a wide width just because it is harder to find wide in the styles I like/need for work and they usually cost more to special order.

Most people carry the least amount of fat in their hands and feet.  It will be the last place you see weight gain and the first place you notice weight loss.

Personally, after almost 100 lbs. lost I didn't change shoe sizes.  My shoes fit a little better and don't feel as tight, but I didn't drop a size or width.

Right after surgery I bought a new pair of New Balance shoes.  Almost 5 months later my heels were popping out as I walked and they weren't comfortable - my foot was sliding around inside.  I went back to the store thinking I would need new shoes but after looking at them the sales person didn't recommend buying a new pair just yet.  my foot had only gone down a half size and they don't sell 12.5's.... so instead he suggested lacing them a different way and WOW!  What a difference!  I'm not a runner so I had no clue about the "lace lock" way to tie a shoe.  They are tight on my feet, my heel isn't popping out, and my foot isn't sliding around inside.

6'2'' chic here can totally relate! Size 9 in high school. At my heaviest a 12 wide. Now? 10.5 and no wide needed. So yes, there is a smaller shoe size at the end of the rainbow for some of us! I can finally shop in shoe stores again, at least a bit. Size 11 isn't common, but there at times :)

My feet have definetly gotten smaller from 11W to 10.5 regular...but where do you find regular size 10.5 shoes? at payless they told me they don't carry half sizes above 10. in all other stores I've looked at I can't find 10.5. i'm just so frustrated with searching for the right size that I end up just buying 11 and thus wearing shoes that are a little to big!
