Fun with the new oven!
Taking a quick break from my VERY LAST ESSAY of the term to share my excitement! I got a new oven last week and it has a dehydrate setting so today I made beef jerky. (Technically I started it yesterday and dehydrated it overnight.)
I used Alton Brown's marinade recipe, an eye round roast, and I dehydrated it at 100*F for 12 hours. It's DELICIOUS. It made a lot (three sheets so far and I think I have enough meat for one to two more sheets today) so I'll freeze it in portion size baggies. This will be a super snack for my long school days and drives. Much healthier than anything else I could snack on.
I'm super thrilled about this! I didn't even know the oven had a dehydrate setting when I bought it... sometimes reading the manual is a Good Thing.
If you'd like to send me good vibes today, I'll take them. My final essay is due in class in 8 hours for workshopping and due for real tomorrow by midnight. I've got 1600 words so far and will end up with about 500-1000 more. It's a proposal essay and, if it's good enough, it will be submitted to the college and might lead to change! (No pressure, eh?)
