ONE YEAR AGO......
It has been one year ago today since I've had my VSG surgery! I am happy with my results. I've lost 96 lbs from my highest weight. I feel so butter healthier! I am 4 lbs away from my goal,,,,, I am still in a stall, been 9 weeks now. I'm going to my doctor for my year check up. I still have issues I need to get cleared up.
- Still having constipation.
- Not exercising like I should . I am hoping in the next few months I will be able to get a few pounds below my goal to give me some wiggle room. As far as the constipation, I have increased my greens, bumped up the water, taking 2-3 scoops of miralax daily and trying to control my carb intake. (I eat too many of those chobani greek yogurts) I feel like I just went to confession here!!! LOL I am going to ask my doctor tomorrow if it is ok to use "colon clenz" maybe once a month? I will meet with my NUT on the 22nd to get another plan in place. I am happy with my results in the past year but honestly..... I don't feel strong mentally, to do what I need to do. Does this make sense? I have this small voice inside me that tells me or makes me wonder if I will be able to keep this weight off? I have relatives and friends who seem to watch out for the "weight gain" since it has happened so many times in the past with me. They have heard the rumors of people gaining their weight back after this surgery. Do any of you have these feelings? Any advice or words for me? I'm not discouraged, I just don't feel confident yet about my future. Will I be able to get the last few pounds off? and will I be able to keep it all off? Thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate all your comments! Thanks!!
Well I will tell you what. I am proud of you. 96 pounds in a year is a bug deal and you should be confident and proud of yourself. I cannot give any advice because I am no where near where you are but I hope to be when I reach a year. I believe in you and you can do anything that you set your mind to. Good luck.
Wow 96 pounds lost and only 4 pounds to goal. That is great! Congratulations.
I can relate to both the carb battle and the constipation. I take a 1/2 dose of miralax daily to manage the constipation, and it looks like I may be doing so the rest of my life!
And my current philosophy on carbs is to keep them out of the house, and when I'm at a dinner or party with carbs, to eat dense protein first, and minimize the carbs. But I am still tempted by them. I think this will be a life-long battle as well.
My suggestion for maintenance is to consider it just another diet plan with a few more calories and a bit more flexibility with cheating. Its not being done. WLS is a treatment for obesity. It isn't a cure. We need to make a life-long commitment to managing our obesity. I know how easy it would be for me to slip into bad habits again. We have to be ever diligent.
best wishes,
Carol

Great year! Fear of regain is perhaps a good thing as long as it motivates rather than paralyzes? (I have been in the paralyzed camp many times in the past and desperately trying to stay out this time.)
It is so easy to lose focus when you feel so good at the lower weight. Meeting with your team sounds perfect! Best wishes!

Congrats on a job well done! I know where you are coming from, but I think fear of regain is healthy. That is my driving force. I have a friend who has gained some back and that helps me be more vigilant. Of course, I'm far from perfect when it comes to eating, but I know how to adjust and make up for bad choices.
