One year surgiversary! 171.5 lbs lost since surgery! pic! long!
My breast cancer history actually came in handy because I developed at new fear of processed foods/chemicals that really keeps me from wanting to over-indulge in foods that I perceive as toxic. (My perception of toxic is not necessarily based on science or logic.)
Now, my chemical aversion only goes so far. I have overeaten all sorts of processed foods (!!!) but just after WLS surgery it mostly looked gross. But, a little bit of it looked like heaven, too! And Lordy, the smell! I swear I can gain weight on the smell alone.
I haven't had reconstructive surgery. I might look into it now that the weight is off but I had radiation and I am not exactly sure what they would do. It would be free, of course, and I think the procedure would likely also happen to take care of my stomach's loose skin so there is that.
But, what I really wanted to say is that even 6years since double mastectomy, yoga is helping with tightness that is across the chest/shoulders that I am sure is related internal scarring/adhesions. So, all sorts of benefits! Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Happy first surgiversary to you! And what a year it's been :-). You've pretty much kicked the weight loss phase in the azz and you're still controlling where you go from here. I want to encourage you to stay in weight loss mode for as long as you think necessary. It's a great training ground for what comes next. You will know when you're done.
You rock!!

Thank you!
I read your comment just before I went into my 1 year follow up with my surgeon. Those appointments always start with the bariatric nurse who said a few times "I don't think you should lose any more weight." This is the first time she had ever met me. The room was cold so I had my denim jacket buttoned up so really all she could see was my hands and face. She had already noted that my BMI was 23.
Eventually I flat out asked what her recommendation was based on. She said I look "thin enough." That just seems so arbitrary. And I hate feeling like I am being accused of....of, I don't know, maybe being disordered in my thinking? Of wanting more than I am allowed? This probably bothers me because I do have more more more tendencies (hello! SMO!) And, I can kind understand how that kind of thinking might go the other way.
So, next I have a similar conversation with the surgeon but after a bit of back and forth (I truly do want to know what she thinks!) she said that as a surgeon, she likes patients (all patients, not just WLS) to have a BMI between 20 and 25. So, on one hand, I am there. On the other hand, she is fine with dropping down all the way to 20 if I want.
It ended up that we were on the same page. I am free to explore. Now, I just need to keep my weight loss mojo going until I "know" when I am done. (Such a mysterious thing.....) I keep reminding myself that weight loss mode and maintenance really aren't all that different....that there isn't a ginormous food reward for calling goal.
Sorry such a long reply....you happened to hit on a fresh nerve!
