Sleep Apnea Concerns
Just wanted to know if anyone has sleep apnea, and had success with weight loss after the sugery without the use of the cpap machine. I have tried numerous times to wear the machine, and I just feel like I'm suffocating, and just can't do it. Just wondering if this may be the reason why I'm not losing like I thought I would. Any help is appreciated.
I don't know if this helps any but my pulmonologist stated he fully expects my sleep apnea to resolve (it was classified as moderate) but it would take a weight loss of 50-100 lbs. Of course, everyone is different I'm sure.
However, if you are not wearing your CPAP machine, with or without having surgery, it can affect weight loss. I agree with the prior post, try a different mask.
I can sympathize though, I detest wearing the mask and look forward to the day I no longer need it!
This is incorrect. It is possible that you could lose a lot of weight and still have apnea, but it is far more likely you lose weight and see a reduction of severity or resolution of the apnea.

it could be the reason. It is well documented that not sleeping well can cause weight gain. Not to mention the fact that you can die in your sleep Or kill someone else by driving your car while fatigued. And you ARE driving fatigued if you have sleep apnea.
Before I was a teacher, I worked in a sleep disorders clinic. If I understand your post correctly, you already had surgery and are now having difficulty with the cpap? It may very well be you need a different setting if you have lost weight. The cpap is titrated to a specific value based on what best eliminated your apnea. Thing is, if you lost weight it could affect how much or how severe your apnea is requiring a different level. Best to check in with your sleep doc if you can- you might need to be reevaluated.
