What was your EWL% by month (read for explanation)-

Hi!

Shel25 posted her 1 year post, and included what her EWL% was by month- fascinating! I have been on here for years, but it is the first time I have seen someone approach it from this angle. To explain, normally we all look at what are loss is and compare it to the total amount of weight loss desired. So, for example:

300 (my surgery weight) - 106 (weight needed to lose to get to goal) = 194 (goal weight). So 194 represents the weight where I would reach EWL of 100%.

Shel25 calculated this by month. If I understand correctly, she calculated her percentage based on the weight she had left to lose. This makes a ton of sense! It is common that as the months go on, the pounds lost per month go down. We all pretty much get that this is because we weigh less, so we lose a little less monthly. By looking at the EWL% by month, it is starteling how are percentages are actually increasing- not decreasing! How incredibly motivating! Anyway, I am posting my numbers. I would love to see what others have to see it the pattern holds that our percentages continue to do well all the way to goal (or however far you are).

Another interesting revelation when I did this- my percentages actually increased when I increased my calories. Please know that I am not advocating that you do this- but my progression increased calories a bit at month 3 (about 900 if I recall correctly, month 4 about a 1000-1000, and leveled off at month 5 at 1200. I also exercised a lot most all the way through except when recovering from surgeries. I don't remember exactly when those surgeries were anymore, but the healing process may have burned more calories (just a disclaimer as I don't want to misrepresent the process).

Hi,

I had originally intended to do what you did for math but I don't know what my goal weight was.  Either way is good. I love seeing data represented in different ways.

My calculation was: weight loss for month divided by my starting weight for that particular month and then times 100 to get the percentage.  So, it was like I had a new body every month (ie, new starting weight) and then found what percentage of it I lost.

So, for month 9, my starting weight at the top of the month was 162, by the end of the month I had lost 12.5 lbs.  So 12.5/162x100=7.7%

Like you, totally surprised that my percentages increased in the middle.  I haven't gone back to MFP to compare calories, but assume that by month 6 I getting more calories in than month 2.    If memory serves me right (again, mfp knows for sure) I bumped up walking about month 5 and then added yoga in month 6.

Thanks for your numbers....gives us all something to think about.
