When did you start really working out?
My husband is 6 days post-op sleeve and is grumpy about not being able to go to the gym. Says he feels fine. His doctor has recommended a month before working out. So he is going to follow his advice. He is cleared for all the walking he wants - so I found him on the elliptical when I got home from work today.
Just wondering - especially for those of you who like to lift weights (I do not) when did you feel up for the gym?
Thanks!!
Tell your husband to relax. You can do some serious damage lifting too soon. The timeframe I've seen most often has been no lifting anything over ten pounds for six weeks. My surgeon said 8 weeks.
There's no reason to bust a gut -- literally. Tell him to walk, then walk some more. The gym isn't going anywhere.

Before surgery I worked with a trainer and on my own at the gym between 4-6 times a week. I walked a couple miles a day starting 2 days post op and went back to the gym at 2 weeks because I couldn't wait anymore....it gets way too easy to Not go even after you have made going a steady habit.
I prefer working with weights over anything cardio...but my Dr said nothing over 30 lbs for the first 30 days. You can definitely feel the pull in your abs doing core work or lifting too heavy. If was a gym rat like me before surgery, he will bounce back quicker than someone who never worked out beforehand.
As as long as he listens to his body he will be fine....don't jump right back into your old routine. Good luck!! Missing the gym is a good problem to have :)
Elliptical is NOT walking. It involves more torso twisting than walking and, if his doc said walking only, that's what he should be doing. Not using the elliptical.
My surgeon said walking only for 6 weeks, so that's what I did. And then I started adding in new stuff - yoga, pilates, running, zumba, weight lifting, etc.
