Insurance Approval
I am scheduled to meet with my surgeon on Wednesday and will go over this with my nurse navigator, but I was wondering how long it took those of you who had insurance that approves VSG from the start of visiting doctors, dietitians, etc to getting approval and scheduling surgery. I'm so excited to get this going and was just looking for a timeline or time frame for all of this!
I know this is not the answer you wanted but it really does depend on your insurance and to some degree your surgeon's office. Call the number on the back of your card and see if they can give you a time frame. Also, ask if your surgeon's office is familiar with your insurance and ask what is the average time for approval.
We are so excited for you Keep us posted on your progress!
Regards,
Kathy

I started the process at the beginning of April and got approved in the middle of June, with a surgery date of 6/24/15. I tried to get my appointments in as soon as possible, to up the date and get it done as soon as I could. :)

My process took 6 moths, but it would have been at least a month shorter if my surgeon's office staff was more efficient. They lost my paperwork to submit to insurance, so I should have had the surgery in June or July and had it in August instead.
5' 5" tall. VSG on August 4, 2015/ Starting weight 239.9/ Surgery weight 210.9/ Current weight 137.4/ Goal weight 140/ No longer overweight, now a NORMAL weight. Now that I'm at goal, it's time to move on to maintenance!!!!!!!!
My process took 6 months, but that is because my insurance (Atena) required me to have a 6 month supervised diet plan. After my last visit with the nutritionist, I set up my pre-op appointments for the very next week. I got approval from the insurance company in 4 days. I however; had my surgery set for 4 weeks after my pre-op appointment, but that is because I had to set up FMLA with work and I wanted to make sure I gave enough notice. Good Luck!!
