Surgery was Tuesday
First you will not feel full as you had half of stomach removed which means nerves were cut. Do not rely on the full feeling make sure you measure out everything according to your doctors plan.
Advice for the fluid is keep a bottle by your side at all times even at night in case you get up for something. Try and sip every 10-15 mins that you are awake. I know it can be a pain, but it all works out in the end. Maybe try different temperatures that seems to help some with getting in their fluids.
It will get better just take it one day at a time.
I had trouble getting the water in too because of the small sips, being tired. It will all get easier though. You will eventually be able to drink more at a time (not huge amounts but more than now). It can be a pain but really is awful if you don't get enough in. I make sure I have my water with me always - even if I am just running a quick errand. I also found it easier sometimes to eat jello than drink something. Your sense of feeling full will change over time too and I agree with measuring and use that as your guide.
I had my surgery on 8/13 and went back today for a week check up. He said I was doing good. I'm surprised you're on a purée diet already though, as I had to be on strict liquids only for the first week. (Ex. Broth, protein shakes, water, water, water, and juice.) today I got to start baby food. Feeling better each day! Good luck to you.
If you sip all day, you'll have no trouble reaching your liquid goal. Set a timer to ring every 15 minutes if you find yourself forgetting.
Right now, you should be measuring everything you put into your mouth to ensure that you don't overeat. Most of us don't experience restriction until we get to solid foods and most of us don't experience much of anything in our stomachs while all of the severed nerves are healing.
