The lactose is partially digested by the bacteria that turns the milk into cheese. That's why many people mild lactose intolerance can still eat cheese. Many times the lactose intolerance is only short term post VSG. Try using Lactaid for the time being. You can also switch to almond or soy milk. I started using almond milk very early on just to cut down on carbs. I've grown very fond of it and only use real milk for a shake when I run out of almond milk. (I now buy unsweetened almond milk in cases of 6 at Costco. Best price and doesn't need to be stored in the fridge!)
I felt horrible drinking milk post-op too but can say that about 3 months out I tried it again and was fine. I've been drinking 8 oz each day with no aide effects. Give it time!
