VSG with hiatal hernia or??
I had a hiatel hernia that was suspected by my surgeon preop, and he recommended that I go Rny. I insisted Vsg. I had horrible reflux. Surgeon found it during surgery, and no issues with heartburn at all now other than once every few months a little acid reducer.

Had my hernia fixed same time as my band removal and sleeve.........no problems although I will be only two weeks out tomorrow lol. I had the best surgeon and total confidence in him. From what I hear some doctors aren't as confident or have done many and therefore lean towards bypass.
If you have any doubts another opinion might be in order

My DR found a hiatal hernia during a GI Study prior to surgery. They also said I could switch to RNY or have an endoscopy done so they could biopsy some tissue in my esophagus to make sure it wasn't precancerous (due to acid and corrosion caused by the hernia and bc some people get even worse reflux after VSG). I chose to do the endoscopy and I am SO glad I did. I had my VSG done on June 24th and since I have not had an issue with any type of heartburn. They repaired my hernia as well at the time of surgery.
