It gets better, I promise.  Drink what you can and as often as you can.

Try warm, not cold. I had troubles with cold things, still do in fat.

I was just the opposite. Drinks had to be almost frozen. That's why I think it's important to keep trying a variety of things until they find what works.

Dehydration is by far the number one reason for rehospitalization after weight loss surgery. And it is almost completely avoidable.

Absolutely! Liquids in is so crucial.

I kind of avoided this 3-4 days out/liquid issue being pumped full of fluids for pneumonia, but had similar issues once through that.

I struggled trying to do my usual cold drinks, but as soon as warm hit my stomach it seemed to relax and let a little more down. I really thought it would be the opposite- that cold would reduce swelling. So I attempted to alternate :) I figure best of both worlds.

Same here. If it isn't ice cold I feel nauseated.

If it feels like stretching you need to take a short break.   Everyday you will get there.   I know it doesn't feel like it.   Just try a variety and see what goes down the easiest.   For me it depends on the time of day.   Morning and before bed it has to be hot liquid for me.   Midday it needs to be ice cold.  Something that helped me was liquid jello (before it sets) with extra protein powder mixed in.   It cut the sweetness down some and it was something other than broth that I could drink.   Little apps.   1 ounce cups.   A little bit at a time. You can do it and congrats on being home! !

How long before you can drink more than an ounce at a time?

When do you feel comfortable to just drink a full liquid, like a protein drink?  (or half a protein drink?)

I drink my protein shakes (11oz) over about 1.5 hours.   So I pour it in 3rds.   as for the rest of my drinks I use kiddie cups now, not ounce cups, just because the ice melts.  But I sip it all really really slow.   And I try to get through my 1 kiddie cupeach hour.   It holds 5 ounces.

I got SOOOOO emotional over not being able to get everything in and feeling like i was a failure.  I'm impressed you got everything in.  I couldn't even get over 30 on each for the first few days.  You are going to do really well, just keep walking and sipping.  If cold is what it takes, then make it be ice water.  You can also chew ice if it helps, but my doctor and nurse said to count 1 ounce of ice chips at .5 of water since it does not fill the whole ounce cup with gaps.  I chewed a lot of ice when I was in the hospital.
