Chrissy,

Bless you for the amazing post. It brought tears to my eyes. You are right on about it being surgery on your body not your brain. I am also comforted by the fact that I'm not a perfect eater. I have slipped also and really beat myself up. Even gained a few pounds. You look blissfully happy.

I am so glad you met the man of your dreams. You both look so happy.

Thanks also for the pictures. You have made me realize that I can do this. Best wishes on your new marriage and congratulations on your weight loss. I pray that I can one day be there as well. I just need to be patient.

Robin

Hey, Robin. Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad to hear that you're learning not to beat yourself up over mistakes. While I believe that, yes, we should give ourselves a stern talk when we get out of control, I think that berating ourselves only perpetuates the sort of food-related behaviors that got us here (obesity) in the first place. Instead, I found it immensely helpful to ask myself questions and do some self-reflection when I messed up. Things like:

Why did I do this? Boredom? Loneliness? Self-pity?

What was the payoff? Comfort? Numbness?

What could I have done to put off such a snap decision (because they always are, aren't they?)? Drink a glass of water? Take a walk? Check my social media for a distraction? Say a prayer? Jump on OH for a while for motivation? ;)

What behaviors can I use in the future to replace the hand-to-mouth habit of snacking (if snacking is the problem)? **I learned how to crochet a few months post op and did that a TON when I felt the *I'm pacing the floor because I need a snack* craving****

What behaviors can I use in the future to keep me from overeating? Put my fork down between bites? Engage in conversation with others (while my fork is down)? If I'm alone, measure EVERYTHING that I put on the plate? If I'm out, ask for a half portion and a to-go box to be brought with the meal?

*** I firmly believe that this journey is so much easier when we have good attitudes. If we learn how to THINK about food in healthier ways, we can have a healthier relationship with food. And once that hurdle is crossed, it's pretty smooth sailing from there!!

Best of luck to you.

Chrissy,

thank you for your kind words. I will remember the stern talk. Just not give up and realize it's a marathon not a sprint.

hugs to you,

Robin

Thanks, girl! That means a lot! I see that you're doing fantastically, as well! All healed up from plastics?
