Am I Too Old

I got my sleeve April 3, 1 month after I turned 64...I was 217, 201 day of surgery. I have lost 30 lbs in 3 months, with a total of 45 lbs gone in 3 1/2 months., I am off metformin, halved my blood pressure meds, & the C-pap is packed away Oh, The Dr. took out my disconnected Lap band & gave it to me as a souvenir.... good luck...if you think you are old, then you will be too old.  P.S. If I am not too old to work a 12 hr. day in the ED, then I am not to old to take steps to ensure good health.

Went ahead got my sleeve 5/19 and I too work a 12 hour day in an ED.  Going back 7/9, worried because I still feel pretty tired.  I'm sure once I get back into the swing of things it will feel like I never had any time off!  Really enjoyed not working though.

I had my surgery last July 9 and I was 65 years old! I was also type 2 diabetes and my blood was back to normal the day after surgery and I haven't had a problem with it since. I have lost 105 lbs to date and have about 40 to go...sometimes it's a very hard battle, some days I am starving, but overall I do more than I ever did before! The surgery was easy..took hardly any time to recover...YES! I would do it again! Good luck to you!

Are you being silly or selfish for wanting to be healthy?  Of course not!  I was 60 when I had my VSG, and five years later I couldn't be happier.  Go for it!

OMG!  I want to thank you all for those replies. I am so so happy to hear that others my age are having this procedure. I needed to know that. I really am tired of changing clothes several times b-4 going to work, only to come back to the first pick. I'm tired of worrying about my health and being afraid to go back to the Dr.'s hearing them say the same embarrassing things that I seem to not be able to do. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I did attend a VSG seminar 5 weeks ago and was approved to have it. Tomorrow I will go ahead and start gathering the information that's needed. I can only pray that I have good results as you all have. THANKS!

I was 63 when I had my VSG.  I am almost 66 now and so grateful for these years of feeling better and healthy.  You will not regret it!  You will not believe how much better and younger you feel.  The weight weighs us down in all ways.  Good luck!

Thank you all so much for all your replies, really appreciate it.  Just replaced batteries in an old weigh****chers scale and really thought I lost more.  VSG 5/19. so about 7 weeks ago and to date loss 31 lbs.  I know it would have been more if I exercised, so that's the next part of my journey. Back to work next week, so I'll let you know what comments there were.  I can tell alot of people thought I was crazy doing this but I really felt this was the best thing for me.  I will let you know how I make out.

No, you are not too old. I was 62 when I had my surgery for the VSG this past January. I have at this point lost 75 pounds, 64% of my excess weight. Before my surgery, I felt like I was in my 80's...too tired and no energy to do anything active, able to do no more than 1 errand day. Now, 5 months later, I feel like I am in my 40's. I can be active (including running after my young grandchildren), and exercise without pain. Just had my labwork done and my Glucose and Lipids are way down (and all my Vitamin levels are great). My doctor cut my cholesterol prescription. in half...and said that if my numbers are still good in 6-months I will be off the prescription completely. I am so happy I made the decision to have this surgery, and since my Insurance denied me, I self-paid which was a financial hardship, but so worth it! :-) Kay
