Surgery was 4/21/15. IUD placed in March of 2014 after birth of child. Have had no periods and before child periods came and went like clockwork. Last night at work started spotting. and Today as well. Do I call my obgyn or baratric office. Is this normal? Do I need my IUD checked?

the fast weigh loss can mess with your hormones , you may get no periods or every week ,light or very heavy

some iuds also effect your period , You can call your ib gyn , but don't forget to tell them about your sleeve and weight loss

I was told that spotting and irregular periods could last for up to six months after having my IUD inserted (I have the Mirena).

That held almost exactly true for me, but then I had my surgery at the end of those six months and I now get some spotting every few weeks (maybe it's my new, super-light period?).

With my IUD, I would spot for a day or two once in a while, but not every month. The unpredictability was frustrating, but my OBGYN said it's totally normal. It can also be caused by weight loss after surgery, we get an extra bonus flood of estrogen as we lose a lot of weight and that can cause breakthrough bleeding as well.

If you start having heavy bleeding, cramping a lot, or the bleeding lasts, say, more than a week, then it's probably time to call the doc, otherwise I imagine you'll be OK.

I also have an IUD and had no periods before my surgery.  The month after surgery I had a very light period...but enough to have to use products.  It seems normal as you lose weight rapidly.
