Treadmill walking ?

I am a week out today so I got the bright idea that I should go downstairs and get on the treadmill and work out. I have been walking in the neighborhood each day but it is raining today so thought I would be ok. I was soooooooooo wrong. 9 minutes in (not inclined or anything) I got dizzy and felt nauseated. I don't know if it was just the movement of the treadmill that threw me off or what. Anybody else have experience with this?

I guess it is back to pavement walking for me for a while. :(

So sorry that the treadmill didn't work for you.  My doctor didn't okay the treadmill until I was into my second week. He said that I needed to go no longer than 20-25 minutes and at a slow pace.

Talk to your doctor, but maybe give it another week or so and try again.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the info. I swear I felt awful. Worse than any motion sickness I have ever had.

Too soon, hon! Just a normal walk on the ground is just fine. If you miss a day or two due to rain, so be it. I was not cleared for any type of exercise except normal walking until after my two week post op visit with the surgeon. Your body is too busy still healing from major surgery. Take it easy. Rest, relax, nap, and hydrate!

Thanks Kairk, I would have never imagined it would have that affect on me.

Another possibility might be that you had an episode of low blood pressure. If you were on high-blood-pressure meds before surgery, you might experience a dramatic drop in your BP after surgery. I did and nearly passed out a few times until my doctor told me to get off the med. This happened just a few weeks after surgery.

Thanks Psychoticparrot but I have never had BP problems. I always ran a little low but I guess I could really be running lower now. Hummmmm had not thought of that. I will have to borrow a cuff and check it once and a while. I really think it was just the movement of the treadmill. I walked earlier around neighborhood and did fine.

Thanks for for the input though I will have to monitor my BP.

You might have the speed on the treadmill too high?  The treadmill counted as walking for me, so I was able to use it right away and didn't have any troubles.  But I kept the speed around 2mph to start with.

Gwen, I was going @ 2. 5 mph then slowed to 2 then to 1.5. I had to sit down on weight bench and put my head between my knees. I thought for sure I would pass out or throw up.

Think I will wait a week or till I am eating soft food and then try again.
