Protein supplements make me gag!
Sorry about the title but I am 3 days post op and I've gotten to the point I can't stomach any more of the sickening sweet supplement. I'm using Syntrax - Matrix strawberry cream. I practically gag when I think I have to have another protein shake. Is there an alternative protein source that you can recommend that isn't sweet tasting but is palatable?
Unjury makes a chicken broth flavor that might work. They also have an unflavored option you can add to other things.
I also like Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate because it's not nearly as sweet as most of the chocolate options out there. It's a darker chocolate taste.

The further out post op I got the more protein shakes and powders made me gag. I tried every kind possible, all flavors, unflavored, etc. It seemed like I suddenly had a hugely heightened sense of taste and smell and they all smelled like rotten meat to me! I started consuming different broths instead and knew I wasn't getting enough protein but the alternative was to throw up every time I ate. When I finally did have a blood test it showed my protein level was normal, though.
3 days out you can get along without protien as long as your getting liquids in , you still have anastsia in your system and that will mess u your taste give it a few more days , if you are on full liquids you can mix unflavored with broth or crystal light , ice tea , when you get to purried or soft food you can eat eggs , milk is a full liquid
I could not stand the sweet stuff either. I had the Unjury chicken soup protein supplement once a day at lunch usually and in the morning I would drown two scoops of vanilla or chocolate protein powder in 3 cups of coffee and a little almond milk. I did not have to add sweetener! And I had a protein coffee. That was my standard breakfast for close to a year and a half post op. I still have it once in a while for variety when I get sick of eggs. I also used unflavoured protein powder in foods that had a strong taste of their own so that it would kill whatever smell or taste of protein that even unflavoured powders still have. And at times I put in some sort of flavoured protein (again mostly chocolate or cappuccino or vanilla) in greek yogurt. That was rare though. But I really had to hide it under stronger flavours to be able to manage.
