What is consitered "agressive treatment" of high BP
Hello!
My insurance just switched to paying for gastric bypass. I qualify, from what I think, I have a BMI of 37-40 and high blood pressure controlled variably with medication (it's okay sometimes and out of whack others) over the past 10 years. My question is what is considered "aggressive treatment". I'm currently on a HCTZ which controls it and sometimes it doesn't. I was on a beta blocker as well a while ago and I took another medication which dropped me too low and I had to come off of it. My doctor believes it will be cured if I lose weight, but I'm nervous about insurance. I kinda want to solve the problem and not mask it with medications anymore.
Hi, who is using the phrase "aggressive treatment?" Is it the insurance company that is asking about this?
For myself, I was on two blood pressure meds before surgery. I dropped the beta blocker within the first month and my beloved diuretic the 3rd or 4th month. My blood pressure is currently beautifully controlled with no meds. Amazing!

I'm currently not on the beta blocker anymore but it always stays slightly high just on HCTZ but everything else drops me too low.

But, from a doctor's office perspective, "aggressive treatment of BP" is most commonly used when a doctor is treating a patient to a target blood pressure well under the usual
