Is it a Protein Bar or a Candy Bar?

I've bought Quest bars everywhere, including my son's Little League snack stand, but Amazon has them well-priced, too.

Protein bars run the gamut from somewhat healthy to really crappy. There's no need to discuss the crappy ones.

As for the healthier bars, they aren't as good as natural foods. But they are far better than a candy bar. They have half the calories and a fraction of the sugar that a candy bar has. The protein is better for you, keeps you full longer, and doesn't start cravings the way a candy bar will.

I don't think I need to make perfect choices every time. A Quest bar is a huge improvement for me over a quarter pounder with cheese or a four pack of Reese's Cups.

I travel a lot and there's only so much jerky I can take...Quest bars are good for me for quick protein and are also a good source of fiber.

I have 1/2 Quest Bar every day...It helps me get in enough protein grams for the day and it helps the constipation problem. :-)

For me they are neither candy bars nor a healthy food choice. I was never really into candy bars before so after surgery I just never gravitated to the orotein bars either except very occasionally. I bought quest bars and the Oh Yeah ones but never finished a box and even threw some out. I would really much rather have a chicken leg or a lamb chop or a steak. Even on the go. I prefer savoury to sweet any day. I managed the coffee protein shakes in the mornings for a year then went off that too.

Force of habit is so strong. I just eat what I ate normally before surgery with a major adjustment of elimination of certain things like chips, bread, rice, pasta... I can eliminate things but have not been very good at adding other things that I did not eat before.

I like the Quest bars too, but I eat them more as a treat, & lately I've been treating myself everyday LOL. I'm into sweets but these bars don't set me off to where I want more sweets, which is a good thing, but they're not filling, at least not as much as real food, like dense protein, so I keep that in mind whenever I want to eat more than 1.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel

Yup. 50% of calories come from fat (almonds). then it's 25% protein calories and 25% carb calories. Not something I would use during WL and something I would only think of as a major treat in maintenance. Quest Bars are pretty much the only ones I will eat. I've not tried the O yeah bars, but have heard good things.

I find the O Yeah, chocolate caramel reminds me of an O Henry bar - do you have those there?  I get my bars at one of my Costco stores, online at various low carb stores and health food stores.  I think Amazon might even have them but you need to find somewhere local to buy one to try. They come in two sizes - small and large.  The small has 190 calories and 15 grams of protein - the large has 30 grams of protein. CHeck their website and see where you can get them locally.  My box has two flavour the chocolate caramel and chocolate almond.  My mom doesn`t like them - she wanted an O Henry and didn`t like the slight taste of protein.  I hate the Quest Bars - far to dense for my palate.
