My Doc let me have real coffee after a week. I had to beg. He asked me to drink it luke warm.

Many programs ask that you wait at least a month before adding coffee back into your diet. I actually didn't start drinking coffee again until I was 2.5 years out. Last summer I wanted something with a little kick and real coffee was the answer. Besides, I figured having coffee was a hell of a lot better than going back to cigarettes, which was my first inclination - even though I haven't smoked in years!
Anyway, my program suggests that you avoid caffeine for life, but if you can't to wait until 3 months post op and then limit to two cups of coffee per day.
My surgeon said 4 weeks. My 4th week is Monday and I'm on a countdown. He did say limit all caffeinated beverages for life - no more than 16 oz a day.

I had coffee on the first liquid tray in the hospital. I have only heard of coffee restrictions on these forums. What was the rationale for no coffee? It stimulates the gut some but that can be a good thing. I drink 20 oz every morning, and have from the start.
