i am 16 days post op. As we all know...every doctor has a different view on progression.... Taking a poll here....how quickly, if at all, did you return to your coffee?  I only drink 1 cup in the morning.... But I miss it!  My doc says leave it behind..... What did your doc say?  When did you add it back to your liquids?

I was drinking starbucks after about a week. My daughter drove me there and I had a decaf latte.

I went back to caffeine at about 3 months. Coincidentally the same time I went back to work as a teacher LOL I'm 10 months now, and I drink one cup everyday.

I don't drink regular coffee though. I drink lattes. They are less acidic to my tummy than regular coffee. I've never really been a regular coffee fan, I always drink espresso drinks.

My nutritionist is fine with it, mainly because I drink milk that way, and my calcium is great! LOL

I began drinking decaf about 1.5 months out and then resumed regular coffee at about 3 months out.

My nutritionist said they had no hard and fast rules, that it didn't seem to matter one way or other as far as weight loss but that some people became extra jittery as they lost weight so fast.  However, on convention, they recommended that we wait until we were getting 48-64 oz of non-caffeinated fluids before adding caffeine.  That's what I did.  Too about 2 months.

I am just like you, a one cup a day kinda' girl. I drank decaf for the first 6-8 weeks or so and then I switched back to the good stuff.  I don't think that one cup a day will hurt you.  I did wait a bit though, because I found that I was dehydrated in the first weeks and caffeine will make that worse.

Prior to surgery I loved coffee.  4-5 cups every morning.  I got the green light at about 1.5 months.  It didn't taste good to me.  That was true with some other foods to but not liking coffee really was a shocker.  After about another month, it tasted normal again.  I now drink two cups a day, first thing in the morning.  I now switch to water mid morning so I get my liquids in.  I'm also happy to report my taste buds returned to normal and I like everyhting I did before surgery.  Also, I drink it black and not loaded up with calories and other stuff.

Decaf was allowed in full liquids. High test was allowed with the admonition that you need to get in your 64 oz of water in first because its a diuretic.
