Newbie here!!!!
This is an outstanding response.....I love it!! Thank you it helped me for my surgery with the Sleeve revision from the band in the morning.
I was set on the sleeve for the same reasons you are considering it. My surgeon recommended the RNY which I did fully research and considered, but I kept going back to having the vsg. Mine was 4/2/15 so I am too early to know about regrets, but I can't see any reason that I will have any. There are supplements and vitamins taken daily with the sleeve. I take B12, calcium, vitamin D3, iron and biotin and a chewable multi-vitamin daily.
Welcome!!!! I started my journey to deal with my failed band in January of this year. I found a Dr and later decided not to go with him after I found out that he had only done 3-4 revisions of which he was not honest about when I first asked him. I need to remove the band as lately and with weight gain, it has become "selp filling" and is causing problems. My surgeon now has a lot of experience and is a perfectionist of which I need in this surgery.
Like the other lady said her ( I commented on) you want to live a normal life with less complications. I need a sterner master that is above the lap band. I am my nature a clean, healthy eater, I just need a BOOST to get back on trac. I am also doing counseling with the sleeve to deal with the residue of how I got here in the first place....this should be an amazing journey. I am studying now to be a Naturalphatic Dr, of which my own weight lost will kick it off and I will be my first patient.
I think you are making a good choice with the sleeve, you have a warm presence about you and if the RNY was done and got ugly, that would change how you are presented to others. I sense a authentic warm loving person....you want to stay that way. Anymore failed attempts could causes a host of other emotions that would only serve to frustrate you.
My clearance process went really FAST and in less than a month I was approved. First the hospital stay then the surgery. I am excited from trainers to a personal chef to ensure that I follow all that needs to be done to get the job done. I have only be over weight since the birth of my only child....had her in my 30's and I will be 50 at the end of the year....I HAVE TO GET IT OFF AND REGAIN MY HEALTH. I survived cancer 3 yrs ago and I have to switch quickly and aid my body back into harmony to remain cancer free. I am willing and ready. Now it's your turn and you too will be telling everybody, GO FOR IT.
Blessing to you my friend, you will do well.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm ready! I want to take all the pre-op stuff really slow and do what I'm suppose to. I was in a rush for the lap-band and even though I read two books, joined a blog, did all the pre-op stuff, I think I was blinded by the less invasive method and the hope it would lead to less complications. Boy I was wrong!!! This time I just want to get this right. Wishing you much success on your weight loss journey.
Thank you so much. Well with that attitude, you will do well. I will post later on Monday on how things go.
There are ALOT of very good points here. But there will be bias as this is the VSG forum.
Personally I went into my surgeons office with an open mind and told him that I needed help. We evaluated MY situation and based on my weight and my personal goals settled on the VSG as the best possible solution. It is important to note that I was open minded about surgery there was no chance in hell i was going to have a band. I'm a nurse and have seen too many horror stories from them, so I was extremely happy when my surgeon said he absolutely refused to do bands and his whole group refuses to do them for 6+ years.
I started at 330 and never wanted to really get below 200, I think I would look terrible that small. I'm open to the idea now but pre-op I didn't even want to consider it. Now I'm sitting at 240 and decided that I want to get back to basics and get past my stall which has been months long.
Good luck, and if I can be of assistance in anyway I'm here :)
Thank you fellow nurse. Unfortunately I wasn't a nurse yet when I had the band, but yes, the surgical group (during my initial weight loss class) says they do the lap-band ONLY when there is no other option for that individual, but that it is not the preferred method, and they certainly would never recommend it.
I'm going to remain open minded like you state. I really hope I can have the VSG, because the RNY scares me a little, but I'm definitely going to listen to my surgeon.
Thank you for your response and good luck with getting back on track and reaching your goals. You can do it!!!!!!!
