Suggestions for getting in enough protein
all help is welcomed guys! I'm almost at my 2 month post op mark and I need some help with planning my menus. How were you guys able to get in enough protein at this stage? I'm not able to keep down the protein shakes. I tried making protein smoothies but they are painful for me to swallow! I am trying to get my protein in mostly by food choices. Help me out with some suggestions guys! Thanks
There's a daily thread here where people share what they're eating - I suggest following that to get ideas. :)

Early out I couldn't tolerate sweet drinks, so I would put a scoop of protein powder in chicken broth twice a day to make my numbers. I'd put protein powder in anything I could stir, jello, pudding, yogurt, mashed cauliflower. I continued until my serving size got large enough so I could make my protein numbers without it.
Good luck,
Carol

We have the same surgery date! How are you feeling? I try to sometimes get in a protein bar. There are some that have lower calories and quite a bit of protein. I also try to have lean meats/eggs with all of my meals. Also, if you don't like protein shakes, my surgeon's office had me drink carnation instant breakfast with nonfat milk, and adding in a packet of dry milk. Makes it almost 20 grams of protein. :)

Hello! I add Isopure protein liquid from GNC to my regular liquids twice a day. (Since you have to drink alot of liquid anyway, why not add protein liquid to it.) Isopure comes in many flavors. It comes in a 20 oz glass bottle and each bottles contains 40 Grams of protein. It does not taste very good on its own, so I add it to crystal light, V8 diet splash, etc. (I have a 20 oz container and add 5 oz of the Isopure (Peach/Mango) to 10 oz of V8 diet splash (tropical or citrus) and add 5 oz of regular water to fill my 20 oz container. I do this twice a day, which gives me 20 grams of protein in the liquid that I am drinking anyway. (If you did it 4 times a day, that would be 40 grams protein in just your liquid intake.) I fill in with eggs, meats, seafood, yogart, cheese and nuts. Good luck to you!
Do you mean prosciutto?

At two months, I was given clearance from my surgeon to start adding solid foods to my diet. I was so happy to get off all the sweet stuff (smoothies, protein shakes, etc. If I never see another protein shake again, it will be too soon.) If you find you can tolerate tender chicken, fish, and beans, this will boost your protein intake considerably. If you like pork and beef, they need to be cooked to a tenderness that a fork can cut through and then chewed very thoroughly.
