I changed professions last year. You are right. The people I meet now will never know the heavier me.
I am older than you so my parents died quite a while ago but I know my mother would be happy at my decision to have surgery. It is so nice to have your parents. Keep going!

I think all these stories are awesome - relish in the fact that you are so much smaller and your family is able to brag about you! On a similar note about people not knowing you heavy - I was trying on a new trenchcoat at the store and the conversation went like this:
Me: I'm not sure if this will fit (it was a small)
Saleswoman: Oh, do you think you need an extra small?
Me: No, I was thinking a medium
Saleswoman: In what world are you NOT a small????

I ran into an old friend last week who had a very... expressive reaction to my new look. Good expressive, but wow... Open mouth OMG, etc. I have a highschool reunion this summer that will likely be much the same. Then I thought, I'm about to start a new job. No one there will know me any other way than I am today. How weird will THAT be? :-)

I have a reunion in May - eek. My 20th! I was around 300 at my 15th and I'm hoping to be at my high school graduation weight (180) in time for my 20th :D
