Vitamins

I posted this earlier over on the Light Weights board, but figured I should ask here, too. What all vitamins is everyone on? Right now I am taking Flintstones Complete, approved  by my surgeon I tried Centrum chewables and they almost made me sick every time because of the taste. Anyways- I am curious about what others have added into their daily vitamin regimen.

I know some people take more than a multi. My dietitian had suggested prenatal vitamins, but I was unable to find a real good one that seemed to have the amts that she requested. I just feel like soon I should be adding in something a little extra. I am thinking about adding in a probiotic.

I have totally sucked at taking vitamins regularly. I kind of go in spurts... but knew that this was not a sustainable way forward so I have started on the patchmed multi plus (it has calcium also) which means I don't swallow any pills at all anymore! Yay!!!! I know that the verdict is still out on the efficacy of the vitamin patches but I am willing to be the guinea pig and give them a try til my next labs at least to see if it works. Because that would be awesome if it did. One patch a day and you are golden.

I'd suggest just following your surgeon's advice.  My program does blood work every 6 months and then alters my doses and adds vitamins as needed.  So I might be on extra b12 for a while, or extra B1, or they may reduce the iron, etc. Its based on the blood work.   So best to follow your doctor's/nutritionists recommendation and they will guide you.

best of luck,

Carol

Flinstones is a very incomplete vitamin.  The ASMBS recommends that we take a multi with 200% of most vitamins and minerals.  Plus Calcium CITRATE.  Iron, D3, and B12 based on labs/individual needs.

I take the following based on a combination of my surgeon's recommendations, the ASMBS, and my own lab results:

#1 Calcium, B12 spray
#2 Multi, Calcium 500mg, Vitamin D 5000IU, Vitamin K Complex 2200mcg, Probiotic
#3 Multi, Calcium
#4 Iron 125mg, Vitamin C 1000mg

The only bloodwork I have had is the pre op. I'm not sure what all was tested as it was done at the hospital. I haven't been to the dr since 2 weeks post op. I'm now 6 weeks post op. I actually do not go bac****il May 18, almost 3 months post op. I wonder if I should have my PCP do bloodwork.

Having your PCP do labs would be a wise idea, yes!

So, a prenatal doesn't have the levels that the nutritionist suggests, but a Flintstones does???

(((mind blown)))
