I had a scar from my breast line to just above my naval from a surgery 20 some years ago.  My surgeon told me it could be a problem but he would do my sleeve one way or another. It turned out that the scar tissue was not a problem.   Hopefully your surgeon will be able to reassure you as well.

Absolutely. I had scar tissue from endometriosis and bowel obstruction surgery. I was scheduled for RNY but had VSG instead because of the scar tissue. At 9 months out I am down 130 lbs as of today!! They can still do it.

I had major scar tissue from an old-fashioned Gallbladder surgery from 1985 that left a huge scar across my entire stomach but my surgeon was able to do my VSG last December without complications.

I had two old-fashioned C-sections (vertical cut) and a gallbladder surgery prior to VSG.  No problem.  The stomach is actually pretty high up in your body, closer to your heart than you think.

I had a c-section before my DS.  My surgery was done open, so no problems at all.  Make sure it's known that you expect them to open you up and finish the job if they have to.

Thank you for all of your responses  informative and helpful!! Sorry for the delay in my response for some reason it wasn't a little I need to until today. Question how difficult was the recovery from the open vsg procedure... How long was the incision? Again thank you so much!

I had lap band in from 2010 and had VSG surgery 2014 ..my surgeon told me I had a lot of scar tissue from the band and port...but I never experience any problem from it..I saw doctor yesterday for 3 month checkup and weighed 198 lbs. a total he said of 51 lbs. I'm thrilled. So happy with progress and doctor who operated on me... He was so happy with me asked me to talk at support groups and give testimony. I've had other surgeries and know I have scar tissue from them too...

Most often, surgeons can work around scar tissue. But every once in a while, surgeons will close someone up without doing the surgery, or change from lap to open. That's for the patient's safety. It is rare, but it happens.

Ask your surgeon if they think it's a possibility.
