Belly button redness

I've got an innie belly button and, last night, I noticed that it's red and inflamed. I'll be calling my dermatologist to schedule as soon as they open, but I'm wondering if this is something any of you have experienced?

I'm sort of hoping it's weight loss related since anything to make a medical case for plastics is great, but I also know that not everything that happens with my body is related to weight loss! :)

I haven't had that, exactly, but I have an innie, and now it's WAYYY in. If I'm not careful, it can get a little gross. Try a q-tip and alcohol?

Definitely document it, in case it turns into something you can use for plastics. If you do yoga, spend more time contemplating your navel.

I had that and thought it was yeast - but it did not react to the yeast meds.  Ended up with a cream from the dr and it went away.

Hve you smelled it yet?  No, seriously.  Stick your finger in there and smell your finger.  If it smells really foul, and maybe even a little itchy, it may be a yeast infection....the same you can get under breasts and beneath folds of skin.

I had this happen when I was losing weight.  My 'innie' was going farther and farther in.  I would smear an antifngal cream (think atheletes foot or jock itch) in the belly button and tuck a paper towel in to absorb moisture.  I saw results in just a day or two and kept it going for a few weeks.

My doc was kind and repaired my belly button depth when she repaired my hernia.

It doesn't smell at all.  So that's a good thing!

I'm scheduled for the dermatologist on Monday - yay rah.  (I'm due for my yearly skin check anyway, so this works out well.)

That's good - but keep an eye (or a finger) on it.  That was the only place I got yeast infections when I was losing weight.  It may simply be right where a snap on your jeans was, or too much salt left behind from eating celery in bed.

I got several yeast infections in my belly button when I was in the weight loss phase. A little monistat cream took care of it. Like others mentioned, I too, have a really deep innie now. But fortunately, since I've been in maintenance I haven't had any more yeast infections.

This just happened to me a few weeks ago. It was red and sore for several days. I finally figured it out. Its from a new pair of pants that my belly button didn't agree with the buckle. I stopped wearing the pants and put some neosporin on it.

Definitely not the issue for me, although I can see how it would be!  I just wear all fabric skirts 99% of the time :D
