Try HCMC...  I think you'll find an entirely different experience

I was told the psych test was to point out potential stumbling blocks, so that we can be prepared to deal with them, and create a successful weight loss outcome.  In my case, I wasn't a good candidate because I didn't have much of a support group around me.  As a fat 60-year-old I had pretty much isolated myself right into a very singular existence - but I'm STILL that way and it's worked out fine.  So treat your results as a roadmap - and you already have great support in your 12-step group.  I don't think you'll be declined for this reason.  They turn people down for medical reasons (they don't want people dying on the table, or during their hospital stay, plays havoc with their stats), but I think you'll be fine.

I ended up going to Mexico for my surgery, but before that, I did go thru all the pre-op hoops, including a psych test.  It wasn't oral, it was a questionnaire, must have had 600 questions, and then she put it thru some kind of evaluation program.  All very impersonal, and of course the shrink was a total stranger also.  Total waste of time.  More like an insurance company sponsored shrink employment program.

I was very pleased with everything.  One of the reasons I decided to go to Mexicali was that, at the time, few US surgeons were doing VSG.  It was considered experimental by most insurance companies, so they weren't paying for it.  That meant US surgeons didn't have the vast experience in the procedure that I was looking for.  In fact my insurance-approved US surgeon tried to talk me into the RNY.  Ugh, no thanks.

Unfortunately Dr. Aceves died in a private plane crash about a year ago.  A huge loss of a great man.  I haven't heard a lot about whoever took over his practice.
