5k #3
Today was my 3rd 5k and I'm super pleased. I was aiming for a personal record, but I missed it by 7 seconds. I know why, and I know that I could have gotten under 50 minutes if I hadn't been nice and paced with someone I met who was slower. The knowledge that I could have done this is enough to make me feel really proud and successful!
I also had a good experience waiting for R to finish his marathon. I splurged for the VIP pass and was in a nice semi-heated tent. I got to chat with other runners and it was pretty fantastic.
I really, really like the running community. The only competition is against oneself which makes it super welcoming. I love that there are people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities. I've never felt judged or slighted even by the fastest and longest distanced runners. Races are an unbelievably amazing time. I'm so grateful that I can be a part of them now!
Next up, 5k at the local running festival in 4 weeks! Under 50 here I come!
I'm so freaking grateful for all the lifestyle changes I've made that make this possible. I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, when I started this I'd have laughed at someone saying that I could run, that I would run, or that I would actually really enjoy running. But here I am. I love this life of mine. I love this amazing new hobby that I've been able to add to my life. Yes, it was ridiculously scary and intimidating when I started, but I stuck with it and it has only gotten better.

Awesome! I recommend signing up for (and paying for it too) a race now. I know that really motivates me to train - having something on the calendar and knowing I've already paid for me :D
And I know what you mean about winter and training. I've been running on the treadmill since January and it was SO NICE to be able to do my last two runs before this race outside. Oh my gosh, running outside is amazing. The treadmill is a necessary evil and I'm glad it exists, but give me the great out of doors any day!

That's really great. Having my partner and bff who do races too has been really motivating for me. :)

I like your approach. I dislike competing against other people, but I like competing against myself.
I'm glad you run, but since all my major joints are shot, I'm not running anywhere. Not even if zombies come after us.
