Beef Jerky

I notice a lot of people mentioning beef jerky as a snack they enjoy. I am pre-op and had assumed this was something I would have to give up due to the stringy dry texture. Are most of you able to tolerate it and if so when and how much?

Thanks!

Laura

That's what I thought too... I think these people may be like a year or two out of surgery.

You can have it...takes forever to chew!!  Hence the chew slowly!!  I tried it about a month out....wasn't my thing, but if you like it, it's some good protein.

I'm able to tolerate anything now so I use the trader joe's jerky as they have many flavors and its lower in sodium.  When I was given the green light for solid foods, I used jack links tender bites.  Its more moist and easier to get down.  I never ate more than an ounce at a time.

I was almost two years out before I could tolerate it.

I have an ounce everyday at work for my snack. I only get the Whole Foods variety as it has the lowest calories and sodium. It has 11 proteins per ounce and only 60 calories.

I was always amazed too at how many people were eating it seeing as it's so dry - so I tried it.  I have no problems with it.  I ate a lot of it around months 3-4 to get protein in.  I'm a little over it now.  :) xoxo

I'm 17 weeks out and have no issues with Beef Jerky. I have been eating it for weeks. I think it's one of those foods that some people have issue with and others don't.

When I was cleared for solids I ate it. I chewed the hell out of it when I first started, but now not as much, no problems, but it does have a lot of salt, so usually I up my water intake. It might be a hit or miss thing for some people.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm happy to hear it because right now I really like having it for breakfast. I like Oberto peppered thin style right now.
