VSG in 6 weeks? Odd question?

Hello

I am scheduled for  VSG surgery in 6 weeks. Afraid a little, but mostly excited.

The one dilemma that I have may sound stupid? It isn't to me. I would like to keep the surgery to my immediate family and close friends? These are the only people that know what's coming on April 27th.

I have not wanted to tell co-workers? My work position dictates some form of discretion and I am strictly business at work. Want to continue that way? Plan was to just say "diet and exercise" However I am not 100% at this point? Have 100's of people around me and my facility. As well as an equal number at other facilities across Canada and the USA that know and see me regularly?

Is this a crazy idea? Has anyone else also not told co-workers?

thank you in advance

I only tell if they ask. I simply say I had surgery. If they have further questions, such as what kind, I tell them as many details as they want to hear. I found the surgery fascinating and a life saver so will tell as much as they want to hear. Some ask, some don't.

thanks for the advice. Maybe the best approach? Not certain?

May be the best thing ever but privacy is important to me? Still undecided?

I have only told people if they asked, and merely said that I had surgery and leave it at that. The people at my  job do gossip, so I knew if I told the truth, that could control the gossip somewhat.  Fortunately for me, I work from home, so don't get to see my coworkers that frequently.  It had been almost a year since anyone had seem me, so many were shocked and some did ask how I did it.  I told them and kept it moving.  I had one colleague strangely ask me to give her my old clothes!  Please don't feel obligated to proactively share such personal information if you are by nature private.  You will have to decide how you will respond if someone asks you how you come to look so fabulous.

One thing worth considering is that people will gossip once you've lost a lot of weight. I've always found that it's better to control the information that people have myself. And I think it's better to tell the truth than risk damaging my credibility when people find out I've lied.

It's okay to tell people "I'm not interested in talking about my weight loss," but lying and claiming you've done it with "diet and exercise" seems like a poor choice in a realm where you'd like to be respected.

I am not telling my work or coworkers. I don't see it as their business. And I think that if they want to gossip about me at least its because I'll be looking good.

I'm also not telling family. The only people who will know are my mom and a close friend.

I'm full of secrets!

you can tell them you had gallbladder surgery and then had to stick to a strict diet because of the gallbladder

That's pretty much my plan, as well.

I feel the same way about my coworkers and the office I work at. I'm not coming out and saying anything but I'm also not about to lie about it either. I'm saying I'm doing a medically supervised diet and exercise plan. Totally the truth. I'd feel so wrong and like I was disrespecting the wls community by saying "Yep. Totally did it all on my own."

Initially I didn't want to tell anyone at work.  I've ended up telling a few people but only when they ask.  I only go in to the office once or twice per month and some people I haven't seen since my surgery 6+ months ago.  I look drastically different and now people are really starting to ask and comment on my appearance.  It took -80 lbs for anyone to say anything - and I 'only' have 100 to lose.
