Late night munchies

So for the last 2-3 nights i've been craving something sweet or salty this is rare for me, but i gave in and grab some fruit one night, the other night a smidget of a brownie, and tonight three cool ranch doritos lol. I'm almost 3 months out and been following my plan and drinking my fluids as asked. My protein in take ranges from 80-100 grams, carbs 35 grams or less,64 oz of water, calories 650-750 and I work out 5-6 times a week. Not sure what the cravings mean but i'm trying to get a hold on it ...but my cycle starts in a week.

Evenings are also the most difficult times for me to keep to plan.  So I shifted my meals to later in the day so that I ate dinner at 7pm, and then I had some plain greek yogurt with artificial sweetener at 9pm.  This left little time for snacking.

I also found that I am very sensitive to carbs, and if I eat carbs I get huge cravings, so I avoided carbs.  Snacking on brownies, doritos or fruit would have been a downward spiral for me. I'd suggest cutting the carbs for 3 or 4 days and seeing if the cravings subside.

Now that I'm in maintenance, I've added some carbs to my diet, but I still have to be careful because the cravings do creep up on me.

best of luck with your weight loss journey.

Having brownies and doritos at your stage for me would have meant that I would not have gotten to goal. It would be a downward spiral for sure. I am carb sensative and could not have done that. I shifted my meals as well and if needed to have something after dinner I made sure it was protein.

Can you change your meal times so that you're eating dinner closer to the time that you're getting the munchies?

Well i have dinner at 7pm already. Any later might be too late. I think since i started adding black coffee is when my hunger at these times spiked. I guess caffeine can cause increased hunger? I noticed it has caused me to delay meals which why i'm probably still hungry some nights. Because I usually have a half a cup to a whole cup late at night so I can stay up and study. Hey i'm in law school lol

Found this on livestrong.com not sure how true this ...

Other Factors

One possible correlation between caffeine and hunger involves craving comfort foods. As your central nervous system becomes stimulated, your pituitary and hypothalamus glands release stress hormones such as ephinedrine and cortisol, enabling a fight-or-flight response in your body. Because the neural control of your gastrointestinal tract is highly affected by emotions and stress, your caffeine consumption may cause you to crave certain comfort foods to help cope with the increased sensations of anxiety and stress.
