Premier shakes new formula

I just heard that this past fall Premier changed their formula from whey isolate to a blend.  I am ticked off as I know the whey isolate is cleaner and we absorb it better.

Are you still drinking it? Any idea why the change other than it is cheaper to make?

Does anyone know how much of a blended whey we actually absorb?

Yikes- I didn't realize and I do still drink them. When I first started drinking the shakes the NUT warned against blends because it shows the higher protein, but as you mentioned absorption is an issue. The ONLY reason I drink these things is for the protein, so time to do some checking!

I stopped drinking it a number of months ago, since I kept getting coagulated shakes!  Yuck.  Now I just stick to my powder and blender bottle.  Infinitely easier.  And, I think, tastier too!

I am far, far lazier than you though. I use RTD most of the time due to convenience. In the summer I do take the time to mix up Chike, because that is worth me not being so lazy! I agree though that the stuff we can put together is far better tasting than the RTD.

What powders do you use, Gwen? And in your opinion what's the best?

My favorite is Optimum Nutrition's Double Rich Chocolate.  It's not as sweet as most chocolates out there.  I've been using it almost exclusively since January 2014 and I'm not tired of it yet.  :D  I mix it in a blender bottle with unsweetened original almond milk.  Or vanilla if my store is out of original.

Hi, Not to be disrespectful of Gwen, but I thought I'd look at her recommendation myself. Lo and behold, it is also a Protein Blend that contains Whey Isolate protein, but it also contains other forms of protein. Here is the ingredient list copied from the website:

Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolates, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Peptides), Cocoa (Proccessed with Alkali), Artifiical Flavors, Lecithin, Acesulfame Potassium, Aminogen, Lactase.

You will find that many proteins claiming to be whey isolate also use a blend to up the proteins. Even the one I use has a blend to supplement the whey isolate.

I believe you just ought to know what you're getting. I think the price on Gwen's recommendation through Amazon is fantastic! It's about 1/2 of what I've been paying, but again, I found one I like and I've stuck with it for 3 years!

Hi, thanks for the response. What do you use? I'm trying to get a variety of recommendations. One user highly recommended genepro protein on Amazon to me. I haven't looked much into it yet but I was told it has 30g of protein in 1 scoop.

I use GNC's Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. I found I like the taste and that's a huge feat for me. Most of the proteins have a taste I can't abide after a few sips. This particular supplement has whey protein isolate but also uses a blend that contains whey isolate, protein concentrate and I think cassaien (however it's spelled! LOL). It's 20 grams of protein per scoop, 2 carbs, and 92 calories.

I don't usually post about my protein powder, but I'm like you kairk. I can't stand the smell or taste of almost every powder I've sampled. I use Progenex Belgian Chocolate. It's a hydrolyzed whey protein isolate. I can mix it straight into hot coffee and it doesn't clump or curdle and tastes phenomenal! It is pricey, but after five years, it's the only thing I can stomach.

I wonder exactly when Premier changed their formula? I used to drink it and my migraines came back early last year and it wasn't until I quit drinking Premier and went back to using only Progenix for my protein that they got better.
