Fitbit vs Jawbone vs Garmin

Thoughts? likes, dislikes?

I'm leaning towards the jawbone, mainly because it appears it calculates weight etc into your calories burnt. I can't see that the fitbit does that?

They're all built the same, more or less, with an accelerometer that tracks movement. Each of them, as I understand it, handles the calorie estimate in the software (rather than the device), and if you import the data into something like myfitnesspal it should compensate automatically.

I had the FitBit Flex for about 6 moths and I loved it. It would track my sleep, my walking, I would log my weight each morning, and it was synced up with MyFittnessPal... so it was wonderful. You can also use the FitBit Flex to log your calories (food) in the app on your phone... but syncing it with MFP works fine.

Now, as much as I loved my FitBit Flex... I just got the Fit*****argeHR. LOVE IT! It does all the things that my Flex did... but it will track my workouts based on height/weight and my heart rate rather than using the standard "averages" that are programmed in if you manually enter your workout. It automatically tracks my sleep (rather than having to put it to sleep on the Flex)... it magically knows based off my HR when I have knocked out. In addition, the ChargeHR will do stairs where as the Flex does not. I loved my Flex... but I LOVE my ChargeHR.

I really want to get the aria scale too... it automatically syncs your information with the FitBit and the app on your phone. Very cool.

OH... if you sync it with MFP, it automatically takes into account how many calories you have burned and adjusts your daily intake totals.

That does help. I couldn't find the info that said chargeHR used you height weight to individualize cals burned. Only the jawbone said it did (but it's nit available yet).

You enter your height and current weight when you make your profile... The weight, of course changes as you log it in daily (or how ever frequently you choose)... When I workout, I just hit the button on the ChargeHR and it gets going. When I'm done, I hit the button again and it calculates calories burned based on how hard my heart worked, etc. it's pretty cool!

I really like the fitbit one., & I really like that it syncs with the mfp app. I try not to take into account what calories it says that I used because I've heard those numbers are usually not accurate & I don't want to fall into the trap of eating the calories I "burnt up". I use it mostly to keep up with my steps. I'm waiting on the fitbit hr in plum color & it's taking forever for it to get here!

There is an apple watch coming out that will do what the fitbit & a lot of other trackers does & more but will likely be way, way expensive. I still might get it anyway & compare.

I'm waiting for the Apple Watch. But for other peripherals: FitBit Aria scale is a must have! It syncs your weight and body fat to your app. It's easy to setup and syncs via WiFi.
