How many weeks/months after Surgery did you add Snacks to your 3 meals?
How many weeks/months after Surgery did you add Snacks to your 3 meals? I am wondering this because my Surgeon told me to only eat three meals a day. I am one month post-op and am on soft foods. I find I am still having Protein Shakes at 2 of the 3 meals, because I can't get in my 75 grams of Protein otherwise. If I have soft foods at lunch and dinner, the amount I can eat (before getting full), I don't get in anywhere near the needed 75 Protein Grams. I noticed that many *****spond to the "What are you eating VSGers" Threads have 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. :-)

Every plan is different but there is no way I would ever get all my protein in if I only did 3 meals a day ever. I did 5 meals a day from the start. From there it morphed into 3 meals and two snacks to achieve my 70-100 gm protein per day. My snacks are protein forward (Greek yogurt, protein bar, nuts and cheese). This is just how I did it. May not be right for everyone.

My plan calls for 3 meals a day of 1/2 cup of food and 2 snacks if needed. But i can only eat 1/4 of a cup at a time so i eat every 2 hours. I eat 7 small meals a day. I meal is a protein shake. 3 meals are 2 oz of venison which is really high protein and i just started making 1 or 2 meals some sirt of fruit because im pretty tired of just meat. The other meals are maybe some cheese or jerky or whatever else i have on hand. Im getting around 100 gr of protein and 80ish oz of water and stick to 800ish calories. That seems to be how i lose weight better.
Every plan is different. My surgeon's plan is also three meals a day, so I eat three meals a day. I'm almost a year out.

I started with 2 ounce meals 3 times a day, plus a shake (once I got to my forever diet at 6 weeks). Since I couldn't get all my protein in with 6 ounces of food!
Then I worked on getting my meals to 4 ounces and, once I got there, I switched to what I still do now which is a shake for breakfast (30 grams of protein) and then two 4-ounce meals a day.
So my meals are:
breakfast - protein shake
lunch - 4 ounces of mainly protein
dinner - 4 ounces of mainly protein
But until I was able to eat 4 ounce meals, I had a shake in addition to the meals. Now my one shake a day counts as a meal. (I still have one a day because it's just easier to have a shake for breakfast for my lifestyle. I could get all my protein from solid food.) Does that make sense I hope?
(I've been snacking recently due to EVENTS, but, for the most part, I rarely find myself in need of a snack. And I exercise 1-3 hours a day. I do treat myself to bananas on race days!)

Right from the start I was told to do 5-6 six melas a day. I couldn't have gotten the protein in without that many. I'm now 5 months out and I'm down to about 4. My calorific inake is 1,000, which hasn't really cahnged in a couple of months. I am admittedly eating more per meal but the same overall. I'm finding the larger meals hold me much longer. This morning at 7:00 am I had 3.2 oz of NY strip and two eggs and I expect that to hold me until noon. It seems to be working so far.

This would be a good question for your surgeon. Perhaps 3 meals per day is a guideline, and s/he is fine if you break the same number of calories up into a few smaller mealtimes. You won't know until you ask!
I was eating maybe 5 or 6 times a day starting in month 2 or 3. I ate less at each sitting-- a piece of string cheese, a little bit of lunchmeat, a small glass of milk-- but had the same number of calories.

Yes, I plan to ask my Nutritionist at my appointment next week. I haven't seen her since my Pre-Op appointments...this is my first time with her at 5 weeks out. I am surprised I haven't been able to see her more often. I am following the VSG Pamphlet they gave me, and I remember the Surgeon saying three meals only. I just wanted more information from people on this Forum before I see her next week. :-)
