Survived my 50th birthday party - stayed on track

My husband (also sleeved) threw me a 50th birthday bash yesterday at Weber Grill Restaurant in Lombard, IL.  A good time was had by all.  And although there wasn't a lot we could eat, we were able to enjoy some BBQ chicken and pulled pork (no sauce) and a little coleslaw.  The oohing and aahing over our weight loss from the guests was fun too.

Happy birthday and congratulations on surviving the party. I am learning that these types of gatherings are more about the people and less about the food.

Very true.  But we knew we also had some hearty eaters and wanted to  make sure everyone was well fed, even though we had limitations.  I think it all turned out great and it  made us realize we can still have fun and stay on plan at social gatherings.

Happy birthday and congratulation on your successful party!  Isn't it nice to be able to celebrate without the need to overeat or eat all the wrong things?  My family threw a surprise 60th birthday party for me this weekend.  We went to lunch with a couple of family members prior - their plan to get me out of the house while my older daughter prepared.  I had a healthy lunch, and, as I had figured things out, had my husband kill some time by stopping to get take out coffee.  So at the party, I had no need to pig out on the munchies,  I later had a planned snack from the things I could eat - so freeing!

I agree, it was very freeing.  We haven't really done any eating out since surgery but we feel confident we can now.  We're taking my mother to a Lent dinner on Friday featuring swordfish and I think we'll do just fine.

Happy Birthday to you too!!
