Ursodiol - Anyone else take this?
My surgeon put me on Ursodiol for the 4 weeks pre-op and for the next 6 months. I've read so many times about people having gall bladder issues after surgery. Did anyone take this and still have to have their gall bladder removed? I've not had any issues with my gall bladder up until this point and hope this medication keeps it that way.

Sorry to hear you had to have your gallbladder out even after taking the medication. I appreciate you sharing your experience.

I hope it stays that way for you too! I keep thinking how not fun that would be to go right back into surgery for the gallbladder.

I posted this same question back in January 2015. (I am 3 months out and have to take Ursodiol for 6 months too). One person said that her surgeon told them that there is no guarantee that you won't get Gallstones, although, Ursodiol lessens your chances. Another responder mentioned that he took it, but 2 or 3 years later he had to get his Gallbladder removed anyway and someone else said that her surgeon told her that he recently learned that nothing will prevent Gallstones. Another mentioned that her surgeon explained that the Gallbladder needs fat to function and since we do not eat much fat, we are at a higher risk. Good luck to us! (if you want to read more details about the responses that I received, just go to search (the little magnifying glass at the top of the page, and enter Ursodiol. My post is the first listed dated January 2015).
I'll go check that out right now. Thanks for sharing! I know getting your gallbladder out is something that happens pretty frequently in fact at my surgeon's office during our group session they actually said, "Well, since you are the only one that still has your gallbladder....". I'm hoping that we both come through the meds okay and without any gallbladder issues!
