I am in a "practice" mode right now. I start my 2wk pre op next week.  My VSG is scheduled for March 11th.  Here's my problem:  I did great on getting in the 64oz of water yesterday (thought I was a good water drinker but not as easy as I thought.) plus 2 cups of coffee.  So no problem with the fluid intake.  But the carbs.. argh.   When I start the pre op my doctor wants 40 grams or less a day for the carbs.  My almond milk and protein powder are in good numbers.  A small banana is 21 gms.  So, I need some good suggestions please.  Thanks for any help.

instead of a banana, get powdered peanut butter in your grocery store and use that in your protein drink.you van fined it in the peanut butter section.( Its good) hope this helps.

Fish, chicken, ground turkey, eggs are all proteins.  Stay away from breads, pasta, rice, potatoes & desserts which are all carbs.  Low fat cheeses and yogurt are good sources of protein and healthy carbs.  Fruits have a lot of carbs but most veggies do not.  I am 2 months post surgery and I have had to spend plenty of time on Google to learn the ropes of this new lifestyle.  I feel so much better now and have so much more energy!  The surgery was the best thing I have ever done.  You can do this!

Bananas are one of the highests carby fruits.  If you want to incorporate fruit look for berries etc.  Otherwise focus on meat, green veggies & some dairy.

Good luck!

I am on the last 4 days of my 2week preop,my 2week consists of 2 protein shakes(DIY smoothie king gladiator) and one lean meal but NO bread, rice, noods or dairy (milk cheese butter) no fatty meats.the first week was hard and I started early but the carb craving will go away.  If I was hungry I had a carton of eas advantedge protein shake to help out..oh and all the veggies I can eat, but no banana's!

on that alone I lost 15 lbs  so I was thinking I should just do that instead of VSG but that's my inner fat person saying yeah do that and I will sneak in a greasy hamburger or two

Stick to meat and green veggies - no fruit...especially bananas.

Are you asking about things to add to your shake?  I just make mine with protein powder and almond milk.  (And some vitamins and benefiber.)  So you could just skip the fruit?

When you are pre-op & sleeved the amount you will eat you will be good with the 40 carbs a day. Track everything and you shouldnt have a problem. I use Lose-it.com Good Luck
