Worried about pain

Hi all! My surgery is coming up on Thurs (eek!) I'm terrified of the pain after. (I'm a big baby) They said they would have be on some sort of self administering drip/push button thing for about 24 hours (no idea what the medication is), but I'm worried about going home. What did your doctors give you and how long did you take it?  

I was provided with a sublingual med similar to tramadol (non-narcotic.) I took it twice post op.

I remember after my tubal ligation they gave me a narcotic and I was on for about 2 weeks... I needed it too. I do not handle pain well. :( 

 

some have pain for a few minutes when they wake up but it is quickly controlled with a morphine  drip 

 the pain button doses you with a controlled dose when you need it but will not allow you to take to much

 if you are still in pain tell the nurse and they will arrange for more or different pain meds

when I woke up I felt like I got hit by a train but I was fine in a few minutes  I was on liquid pain meds the next day and when I went home I was on Tylenol  except a few night s I needed a stronger pain med

 I have no regrets having the surgery and would do it again in a minute if needed  

a hot towel helps with gas pain and walking helps get the gas out of your body , gas ex does nothing for this gas only walking

with a good anasearist there is little pain

My post-op pain was minimal. I was sent home with a prescription for some sort of a pain med -- took maybe two doses. I was up and about the day after surgery. You'll be fine - just put your Big Girl pants on. 😂

My procedure was out patient and I had very little pain.  It was uncomfortable getting up out of a chair and bed.  And that was only day 2&3.  I guess it is all on the individual.  I'm hope yours goes well.  It is do worth it. 

I was sent home with liquid lortab. I only needed it at night -- lying down in bed was uncomfortable, and the pain meds helped that so I could sleep. I stopped it entirely after about five nights. During the day I didn't need anything, not even Tylenol.

Everyone is so different.  I took 1/2 dose of the prescribed IV dilaudid the first night, as it was uncomfortable getting out of bed, from the surgery itself and the gas.  I had asked for something light, but all they had on order was the dilaudid, so all they could do was give a smaller dose of it.  After that, I didn't need anything.  They sent me home with scripts for anti-nausea meds and I think Percaset tabs for pain, but I didn't even fill either one.  I may have taken Tylenol, but I don't think I did.  My pain was minimal, and I hate the feeling I get on heavy meds, so didn't bother.

I had gas pains that caused some vomiting but that was completely gone by 12 hours list op .... And then I had no pain!  I hope your recovery goes smoothly!

I had a really horrible gallbladder surgery experience prior to my sleeve surgery, so, like you, I was terrified of the pain. I was pleasantly surprised that I really had very little pain whatsoever after surgery. I took one dose of Dilaudid the night of surgery and one dose of the liquid pain med (Roxicet, I think it was) for the drive home and that was it. I never needed any pain meds at home.  I think the key for me was to walk as much as possible. They had me get up about 1.5 hours after surgery and I pretty much walked every 1/2 hour to hour after that.  I also slept in a recliner for the first week or so, so that I didn't have to get in and out of bed.

That being said, everybody is different and you may need more pain meds than that so don't feel bad if you need them. That's what they are there for!
