Had my VSG yesterday morning. I was soo dehydrated it was awful! And I was craving fruit.!today I had a sugar free lemon sorbet and I could eat the whole thing no problem. Where's the rescrition and removal of the hunger hormone! Apprently mines still there!

Now two hours later I had another sorbet and still craving salad from four days ago!

The hunger has two likely causes - it's either acid or it's just your stomach lying because its nerves were severed.  You can't trust anything your stomach is telling you.  Are you taking a PPI?  If not, do.

Restriction doesn't kick in for most people until they start solid foods.  I never had any issues with liquids and sorbet counts as a liquid.  Consider yourself lucky that you don't have restriction for liquids, that will make it so much easier to get all of your fluids in!

Your def right about that! They have been giving me Pepcid in the iv but I didn't think it was helping too much.

Gwen...Thank you for that second paragraph. I am still on liquids, and having no problem getting an additional 64 oz of water in. I am glad to know that I will feel the restriction when I eat solid foods...I was beginning to worry that I wasn't feeling it. :-)

What size bougie did your surgeon use? I couldn't get more than a tiny sip of water down for three or four days!

Listen to Gwen! I sure thought of her same advice in  my first few days! (I had too much nausea for tea even for about four days.) But the restriction doesn't kick in until you graduate to solid  foods - some with the mushies, but SO MUCH with regular textured food.

Don't panic. Follow the plan. Like Gwen said, your stomach can tell you nothing right now. If you are feeling things, just remember that a very large percentage of stomach was removed and a staple line is there, inflamed and needing to heal.

My other advice: Just because you think your new stomach can handle something because you don't feel that restriction: Don't do it! Don't eat off the surgeon's plan! Your stomach doesn't know what's up or down right now! The rest is the habit of eating food. I know this; I'm not hungry, but I sure do miss lots of the old food I used to eat before surgery. For me, that's the difference. I'm not hungry, but that doesn't erase the memory of how good food can taste. JUST DON'T GO THERE!

It gets easier. There is a new normal. Just be patient!

I was so disappointed after surgery when I felt my stomach rumbling non stop! I equated this to hunger but my Dr explained this is more likely dehydration or acid or both. I couldn't drink at all my first 2 days after surgery and had to get fluids through an IV. I'm now almost 8 months out and have learned to equate the rumbling to thirst, not hunger. Drinking water always stops the rumbles. It's a new way of thinking for sure!

I can't wait to go home! I just woke up craving turkey bacon and eggs. I'm still having trouble making an ounce of fluid last an hour!!! I'm so thirsty it's so hard! I want more right away.
