Best protein shake that doesn't taste like a protein shake
Hi all. I'm trying to get back up on the wagon. I think my surgeon preferred that we eat solid food after the initial stage (and I'm waaaayy past that), but sometimes life, or laziness, or whathaveyou gets in the way. I also know I'm not getting enough protein. So I think for a little while I'm at least going to keep a stock of protein shakes on hand for breakfast or a quick meal if I have to. I hate the filmy residue from protein shakes although I suppose that's unavoidable. What I'm looking for may well not exist, but ideally I want a shake that is low carb, high protein, doesn't taste (or for that matter smell) icky, and maybe is ready-to-drink variety. Thanks in advance
Well, the thing is that it's all a matter of personal opinion. So I can tell you the shake I love, but it might not float your boat.
I've been using Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate (which I order in alb tubs from Amazon) and I mix that with unsweetened original almond milk in a Blender Bottle (I order those from Amazon too). I love them.

Premier Protein RTD. I heat one up most mornings. Tastes as close to hot chocolate as a protein drink is gonna get. 30g of protein, 160 calories (I think), don't remember the carb count.
But you know protein drinks are personal. What I love, you might hate! I've seen Premier in several grocery stores in 4-packs, so you can try them out before you commit to a whole case.
^^^ Premier Protein RTD in chocolate. They have 5g of carbs.
I drink one every morning with a shot of Miralax. I don't mind them, but they're not a milkshake from In-N-Out. I drink them because of the high level of protein. They have vanilla and strawberry cream flavors, but I keep coming back to chocolate. It doesn't burn me out.
As everyone says, your taste buds may vary.

My favorite shake is made by BPI Sports and the flavor is Vanilla Caramel. I also really like Cellucor's Cinnamon Swirl and Cookies and Cream. If you buy them at GNC and don't like it then you have the ability to return them (even opened).

My favorite shake is Celebrate vanilla bean meal replacement protein shake, mixed with light vanilla soy milk and ice in a blender. I order the tubs from the Celebrate Web site. Their chocolate flavor is good, too. I thought these were the least 'whey-ish' when I tried different brands.
I also enjoy Muscle Milk chocolate (light when available) if I need to grab something at a convenient store.
I have found some flavors that I enjoy in Syntrax. They are more thin and fruity. I went to Nashua Nutrition to order. You can get samples of a lot of the different brands for about $2 each. I did this so I didn't waste money on large tubs I wouldn't ever drink.
