I've been doing okay with my post op diet until today day 9 ... I'm hungry all I want is some tuna fish...

I'm day 10 post-op and I'm dreaming of shrimp. I starting to gag on the protein shakes.

You may want to try different ways to get your protein.  Unjury has a chicken broth that many people found tolerable.  Or try a different brand.

All the things you're feeling are normal, but the obsession with food is strictly in your head.  It's like coming off drugs cold turkey.  All you can do is white knuckle it for now and it will get better.  Don't eat anything off plan at this point so soon after surgery.

So it's not just me!  I'm trying to figure out if my hunger is real or not. I do know the food commercials on the tv are driving me crazy. I quickly went from the protein shakes to the injury chicken soup and Bari wise cream of mushroom. Got tired of all that sweet thick stuff.

The hunger has two likely causes - it's either acid or it's just your stomach lying because its nerves were severed.  You can't trust anything your stomach is telling you.  Are you taking a PPI?  If the hunger is from acid, which is common, that will help.

This! I doubt you are truly hungry. At this point it is acid, nerves, or mind games! I felt like I was starving in the beginning. I took 3 different PPI's, but once I found the right one at the right dosage, the hunger was gone! Good luck!

This is how I think of it: I'm not hungry, but I miss food I used to eat. We don't lose the memory of how great something can taste! Restaurant smells, food-court smells - boy, they are tough. I sometimes miss the food I used to eat, but it's not hunger. Most people on OH call is 'head hunger.' But for me, it's just the missing of food.

I'm not opening the door to the bad stuff. Sticking to the plan. It gets easier! The more stuff you are able to eat helps keep it interesting. I still miss some of those yummy things from my past life, but I'm not even going there!

Nothing tastes as good as losing weight feels!

We can do this!

Tonight was tough, but opposite problem. Started pureed food yesterday and did OK, but tonight I couldn't get it down. Tasted fine, but just couldn't get past texture and only ate a few bites. Dog & cat enjoyed it very much!
