How much $$$ for self pay?
When I was planning to go self-pay through Ohio State Medical Center in 2012, the cash price was $15,950. Other clinics in the area were $20,000-25,000. Be careful, though -- most insurance plans that don't cover the surgery also don't cover any complications arising from it, so you could be on the hook for hundreds of thousands of dollars if you have any complications or rehospitalizations.
Have you considered finding a doc that will give you a referral? They work for you. Do you need a referral to see a surgeon? Find a surgeon you like and ask them if they can suggest a new primary. They all give free information sessions which allow you to get to meet them.
We are retired military and have to go thru base to get referrals. UGH I have to have labs done tomorrow and he said we will see what they show. I don't know why it matters so much to him. I wish he would of just gave it to me. After my labs I will request a different doc. Also, when you try and get an appointment on base if its not "important" you could wait 2 weeks for an appt. I guess I will just have to start lying! Now that I have finally made my mind up I'm ready to get it done!
Yes you have to go in as your own biggest advocate. Did he even give a reason for why he won't referr you?
Many factors impact the cost...

Where you are located
Surgeon
Facility
Pre-Op and Post-Op follow up
If you decide to go out of the US, the cost is less. Let us know if you want some links to profiles of surgeons in MX and we can help you with that.
