Official Surgery Date!

YAY! My surgery date is officially confirmed! I am so excited and nervous! I talked to my doctor's office today just to make sure everything was on track since I hadn't heard from them and they confirmed the date, Feb 25th!  I start my pre-op diet this weekend, on Valentine's day, but I am so excited that I don't even care!

I have to say I am nervous though. About the pre-op diet and surgery. Pre-op only because I am worried about getting migraines and trying to function with two kids and my own schooling. I guess the same can be said for surgery too.

Anyways- does anyone have any before surgery tips to make things easier and/or any after surgery tips. Not necessarily food tips only.. Life tips? :)

Congratulations! My advice: The pre-op diet gets easier after the first few days. It's good that you are busy - the time will fly by!

The recovery from surgery was easier than I expected. Get some herbal tea - chamomile, Sleepytime tea, etc., so you have something soothing when you get home and it helps get the fluids in. I had a lot of nausea and stayed in the hospital an extra day, but after that - no pain pills and I was walking my neighborhood within a few days.

Good luck! Best wishes on your journey!

Thank you! I am hoping you are right and it does get easier! I am only allowed to have Bariatric Advantage and broth. So I know that I will meet my needs nutritionally by the BA but I think it will be a mind thing.

Oh, I hope my recovery goes smoothly! With two kids I need a nice and boring recovery!

My surgeon allowed for one small structured meal every day on the pre-op, along with three Celebrate protein shakes, and that meal helped great. Even though it was only 3 oz of lean protein and veggies, it was something to look forward to. But you can do this!

I have two kids, too, but one is 14 and the other is 9. So no need to lift them or anything! My husband took off from work for a week and my mom slept at my home for a few days to help with my kids. I just stocked my house with heavy stuff - like water cases and laundry detergent - because you aren't allowed to bear down to lift anything. It was good to be stocked up ahead of time. But otherwise, it was all very easy for me after I was released from the hospital.  Having help is good though because it is important to focus on yourself - your fluid intake and such!

Best wishes! It'll be here and gone before you know it and you'll be on the loser's bench! (That actually starts once you start your pre-op diet, which helps too!)
