That's it, I'm officially insane

I've decided that the whole "surgery is on your body, not your brain" thing is a lie.  A fiendish lie.  I believe that my surgeon must have also replaced my brain with someone else's.  Since I keep making decisions that can't possibly come from my original brain.

At the end of July, I'm going to a big huge gamer geek convention in Indianapolis that's called GenCon.  It's the best 4 days of gaming - cards, roleplaying, board games, miniatures, it's all there.  The vendor hall alone takes me two days to walk through, not because I get worn out, but because it's so vast and I want to look at everything multiple times!

Last night I had the totally harebrained idea of "huh, I wonder if there are any 5ks happening that weekend near the convention center."  Through the magic of the internet I found that, yes, there is one.  It started 4 blocks from my hotel at 8pm - so it won't be nearly so hot and humid as it is during the day.  Indy is also a pretty flat city, so running on the streets would be awesome.

And then I decided that I'm totally going to do it.  Even though I'll be spending my days walking a LOT.  Even though I'll be staying up late to hang out with my friends.  I will be running a 5k at GenCon.

And this, my friends, is why I feel like surgery must have done something to my brain.  One of the many reasons I don't feel much of a connection to myself anymore.  And one of the many, many reasons why I see a therapist every week and am about to start a new type of therapy as well to help with being more connected to myself.

Seriously.  Who signs up to run a race in the middle of a big gaming convention?!  It's both awesome and confounding.

Good for you Gwen!  I look at it not as my brain was replaced, but that all of those things I've always wanted to do, but were  buried under mounds of fat, are now coming to the surface.  My brain just starts firing off ideas, and I go with them.  Like starting a dance class at 56, three weeks after my surgery - I'll be in my 4th recital in May.  Or signing up for a week long Heritage Tour with my daughter, that required miles and miles of walking, 8 months after surgery.  Who'd of ever thought those things were possible?  You go girl!!!

I am not a therapist but maybe the connection you are missing is with someone who no longer exists??  Maybe she has been replaced with a healthier, leaner, confident woman who is waiting to be introduced to you. Possibly embrace that connection, have a great time it sounds like an incredible time.

You should run the Saturday evening 5k too!

What will you be doing at GenCon?  I used to work at Magic events for years and years, but now I just go as a tourist which is blissful.

It is good to accept your insanity. Life as a verified crazy person is much more pleasant. I can attest to it!
