I had my preop today and asked this. My surgeon said she only orders a catheter if the patient can't pee :)

I didn't have one, they had me pee right before they rolled me back and I went again once I got up to my room.

I've had them a couple of times. Feels a little weird but not painful. It is especially weird when you pee and it feels like you should be wetting yourself but obviously you don't. Uncomfortable when they pull it out but not awful.

Nothing painful - but in a word, the sensation is "Bizarre"

You do not feel the catheter and you don't feel it when its removed. I actually had to come home with one because I couldn't produce enough urine at the hospital. It wasn't so bad. My surgeon removed it 6 days after surgery.
