Hi everyone,

I had the VGS done on Oct. 27th and have lost about 25 pounds since but have put three pounds of it back on already. I don't understand. I am not eating or drinking any junk, i swear. I drink water, hot tea and crystal light everyday. I eat tomato soup, light yogurt with skim milk, ricotta cheese, pureed tunafish and pureed egg salad ect. I have noticed the last week that I am not getting as full as i was in the beginning but have not increased my food intake in fear of putting the weight back on, but i seem to be doing that anyway. I'm really at a loss and regretting not having gone with the DS. Has anyone else had this happen and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks!

Do a search for three week stall on this site and read up on it.

A slowdown isn't unusual at this point. In fact, it seems to be somewhat universal. It is sort of unusual that you are going in retrograde, so keep up on your water/drink more than usual. That will help. How has your sodium intake been? If you are drinking a lot of soups, they are high in sodium.

If history and others' experience is any indicator, I predict things will start going in the right direction fairly soon.

Yep, week 3 stall - and don't be alarmed if you fluctuate a few pounds for a week or three, it happens.  I can assure you that you have not gained 3 pounds of fat 3 weeks out from surgery. Trust the process, keep up with your fluids and protein and the weight will start coming off again. Congrats on the 25 pounds lost! Your body can't keep up with that pace of weight loss forever - sometimes it has to take a break!

I actually stalled at day 10 post-op for a little over 2 weeks. You can see from my ticker that I am still losing weight. :)

April:  HW- 323, SW-310, CW-159 (as of 9/25/15), Goal- 140; Pre-op (-13), M1 (-17), M2 (-16), M3 (-14), M4 (-13), M5 (-12), M6 (-8), M7 (-12), M8 (-8), M9 (-8), M10 (-5), M11 (-7), M12 (-5), M13 (-7), M14 (-0), M15 (-1), M16 (-5), M17 (-5)

I keep everything low sodium as best I can. I'm glad it's not just me then, I'll be sure to keep up on liquids and protein and wait out the stall. Thank you (:

Yup, agree on the three week stall. My doc mentioned it will happen when you switch from liquids to solids. All about your body needing to readjust.

Are you exercising? My weight loss has been very slow (9/14) but I don't lose at all unless I MOVE! Just a couple of miles on the treadmill 3 times a week does it for me.

I'm not exercising just yet, but when I'm fully healed i plan on taking up boxing

You should start off with a type of exercise that is more gentle than boxing and build up to it. If you get punched in the stomach, you could do serious damage to your surgery. Three weeks post op is not too early to start walking. I did at 2 weeks and I'm glad I did.

As others have pointed out, the three week stall is notorious and no fun. In terms of putting weight on, it might be just normal fluctuation, but one thing to consider (sorry for this) is are you constipated? This is something that people struggle with when they are getting in very little fiber, and yes it can make the scale go up. Significantly. Some Miralax or Milk of Magnesia might be in order if you haven't been regular recently. Good luck!
